Settings & Shortcuts

Most day-to-day adjustments happen in the Quick Panel. This page covers the full set of Bright Eye settings, its keyboard shortcuts, and the Tools > Bright Eye menu.

Open Editor Preferences > Plugins > Bright Eye to configure Bright Eye. Changes apply immediately, and the Quick Panel reflects the same values.

Setting Default Description
Brightness 0.4 Light intensity, from 0.01 to 1. Shown as Brightness in the Quick Panel.
Radius 0.3 Width of the spotlight, from 0.01 to 1. Shown as Beam Width in the Quick Panel.
Distance 0.4 How far the light reaches, from 0.01 to 1. Shown as Range in the Quick Panel.
Max Brightness 500000 The intensity reached when Brightness is at its maximum.
Max Distance 50000 The reach, in Unreal units, when Distance is at its maximum. Accepts 2000 to 50000.

Activate Light on Press Off When on, the Work Light shortcut lights the viewport only while held. When off, each press toggles the light.
Compact Panel When Idle On Shrinks the Quick Panel to its work-light glyph after a short period of inactivity. Hover over or click the glyph to expand it.
Smooth Light Rotation Off Smooths how the light follows the camera. Shown as Smooth in the Quick Panel.
Rotation Delay Factor 0.4 Amount of smoothing, from 0 to 1. Higher values add more delay. Available when Smooth Light Rotation is on.
Light View Offset 0, 0 Shifts the light horizontally (X) and vertically (Y) relative to the camera view, from −100 to 100 on each axis.
Light Profile None An IES light profile texture that shapes the beam and how its light is distributed.

The page also provides three buttons:

  • Reset Settings restores every Bright Eye setting to its default.
  • Open Documentation opens this documentation.
  • Give Feedback opens the Bright Eye feedback portal.

Bright Eye saves its settings in your own Unreal Editor user configuration rather than in the project or the plugin folder. They are not shared through project source control, and they survive plugin updates.

When you update from Bright Eye 1.1, your previous settings are imported automatically the first time they are needed. The original 1.1 settings file is left unchanged.

Bright Eye has three shortcut actions. They work while the level viewport has focus.

Action Default Name in Keyboard Shortcuts
Work Light X Toggle Bright Eye
Cursor Aim Ctrl + F (hold) Aim Bright Eye
Quick Panel Ctrl + T Toggle Control Panel

Choose Tools > Bright Eye > Keyboard Shortcuts… to open the Bright Eye Shortcuts window. It lists the shortcut currently assigned to Work Light, Cursor Aim, and Quick Panel:

  • When an action has a primary and a secondary shortcut, both are shown.
  • When an action has only a secondary shortcut, it is shown and labeled Secondary.
  • When an action has no shortcut, it is shown as Unbound.

Select Edit Shortcuts… to open Unreal’s keyboard shortcut preferences.

  1. Open Editor Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts.
  2. Search for Bright Eye Actions.
  3. Assign a primary or secondary shortcut to any Bright Eye action.

Custom shortcuts are respected when you update Bright Eye. Updating never resets a shortcut you have saved.

Bright Eye adds a Tools > Bright Eye menu to the Level Editor:
